Milano Meeting

Milan is bidding for Euromedlab 2013

Dear Colleagues,

on behalf of the Italian Society of Clinical Biochemistry and Clinical Molecular Biology (SIBioC), we are honoured to announce the intention of submitting the nomination of the city of Milan as candidate to host the upcoming 20th IFCC - EFCC Congress of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine - EuroMedlab in 2013.

SIBioC has currently more than 3,500 members, being the second largest IFCC full member society after the American Association of Clinical Chemistry (AACC).
Several SIBioC scientists (Norberto Montalbetti, Pierangelo Bonini, Giorgio Federici, Carlo Franzini, Paolo Mocarelli, Franco Salvatore) served in leading international positions and a number of SIBioC scientists are also currently active in both IFCC and EFCC.

In the past SIBioC also hosted several official events under the auspices of the IFCC and European Federation, such as:

Milan, a town known for its art and culture, and the surrounding Region of Lombardia, one of Italy’s hard-working areas, are the place of important universities and numerous biotechnology companies. The city offers outstanding convention facilities and organisational infrastructures to host international congresses with more than 5,000 participants.  The anticipated venue for Euromedlab 2013 is the Milano Convention Centre or “MIC”, placed in the heart of town, which is well connected via underground rail links to all the most important service areas and tourist attractions as well as the majority of city’s hotels.

Milan has three major airports with flights to destinations worldwide.  Milan Malpensa, the largest one, with the most international traffic, Milan Linate and Milan Orio al Serio, with many opportunities for business travellers and a variety of low-cost companies connecting the city by direct flights with a number of international destinations.

Holding the EFCC - IFCC Congress in Milan would allow for a broad variety of cultural and social events.  Major monuments and art works include the Duomo Cathedral, the Sforzesco Castle, the Basilica of Santa Maria delle Grazie, displaying the Leonardo Da Vinci’s Last Supper, not to mention opera performances at the Teatro alla Scala.  Excursions for accompanying persons may be planned to Maggiore, Como, Garda and Iseo lakes.

We are confident that the 20th IFCC-EFCC European Congress of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine will provide momentum for the further developments in our scientific field and for our profession.  Provided that Milan is chosen to host this prestigious international event, SIBioC and the Italian scientific community are ready to offer to all of you a warm hospitality that will make your stay memorable.

Yours sincerely,
